Holy Martyr Heliodorus 12/2/2013
He was from the city of Maggido in Pamphylia. He was put to the torture for the faith in Christ during the reign of the Emperor Aurelian. At the time of his fierce torments he heard a voice from Heaven: “Do not be afraid, for I am with you.” When he was thrown into a brazen ox glowing with fire, he prayed to God and God delivered him from the fire: suddenly the fire was extinguished and Heliodorus came out of the brazen ox alive. The Governor accused him of doing magic. “My magic is Christ,” answered Heliodorus. He was killed by the sword and thus he gave up his soul to the Lord.
